Treated like criminals

BBW writes: It is totally outrageous to even think about introducing a blanket ban! We are being treated like criminals & it is not on! Do non-smoking drivers realise what their car fumes do? Are they being told they cannot drive their vehicles? No! Mind you, the way things are going it could be that next!

Smoking people do not wish to impose health risks on anybody whatsoever. The real answer is to have separate areas with decent air conditioning. What is so difficult about that? Come on, what century are we living in? There should be choice for both the non smokers & smokers.
We don't smoke on public transport (ie buses, trains, planes) but what is wrong with having a cigarette afterwards in a designated area?

Why hasn't the government ever banned the sale of tobacco if it is so bad? Because they receive an obscene amount of money from smokers through tax, that's why! My local hospital won't even allow us to smoke OUTSIDE now. Can you imagine how stressful that is! This is getting ridiculous!

As prisons are to be exempt from the smoking ban I think it is more appropriate to say "we are being treated worse than criminals"

I agree with both BBW and Pete J, it is disgusting. If we are to be cast out in all weathers in order to partake of something that is legal and that we enjoy then all tax on cigarettes should be abolished.

Soon we will have a ban on alcohol and therefore all pubs and most clubs will become obsolete anyway. Whilst we have such dictatorial puppets in government this kind of idiocy will not stop just at smoking.

Let us hope and pray that there are enough MP's prepared to vote who have at least half a brain cell left, assuming they had any in the first place! Unfortunately I don't hold out much hope

I agree this is just getting rediculous Labour went against their manifesto, same for foxhunting. This government is becoming too dictatorial, the fact being they know that their grip on power is losening out, with Tony Blair possibly deciding to call it a day, thus they have nothing to lose and want to make life more restricting for the individual citizen. Also, where I work you can't even smoke in your own car in the car park, of course it is an NHS clinic. I hope this all gets defeated in parliament(a victory for freedom of choice) but it seems unlikely given the current state of affairs. Unfortunately certain MPs never had brain cells.

Everyone has rights in this country and i mean everyone. OK us smokers are getting treated like 3rd class people but we still have rights. Can someone tell me what they are.

Anonymous says even smokers have rights, but he/she is wondering what they are.

I suppose about the only one we have left that I can think of is the right to abandon HMS UK and head for a country that has not yet succumbed to dictatorship. Unfortunately, even though we have this right, we may not have the choice due to a myriad of personal commitments and restrictions.

Sadly, I cannot think of anything else. The sooner, however, more true Brits bail out and move abroad, the sooner the government will realise what an enormous problem it has caused for itself as our skilled labour force takes its skills elsewhere!

I have just thought of one other right; the right to stand for Parliament - I bet their club will be exempt, whatever the outcome of the vote. Don't forget, MP's seem to be exempt from all the things that shackle us mere mortals.

Well said Lyn, the taxes should be abolished if we are forced outside to smoke.

I am forced to stand outside of work to smoke but no bins/ashtrays are provided for use and we have been told we face a fine if we are caught throwing our cigarette ends on the ground.

The solution would be to stub them out and take them back into work and let them fester in the bin. Then listen to the complaints I would get!

We agree entirely with all the comments made i.e. third class citizens, we have rights also, ruled by dictatorial puppets, hypocritical. We must do something and voice our opinions before it goes to the Lords. We are arranging a petition from our local private members club to send to the lords. You must all do the same and voice this opinion. The media appear to only voice the opinion of no smokers. Any suggestion on the statement of protest would be appreciated

Already do go abroad for my ciggies, fun, sun, fags and booze, wouldn't have a holiday in this country if they paid me to. Much friendly people and a lot more tolerant. As so many do go abroad to get ciggies, I would like to know where they get the figures of how many people in the country smoke. Oh dear, silly me. Of course they guess everything.
